General Parade Guidelines and Rules

  • Your participation is greatly appreciated! Please follow the helpful guidelines to allow us to make a safe and entertaining event!
  • Walking, bike riding, skate boarding, scootering, roller blading/skating, dancing, and general merriment allowed. 
  • Smoking, alcoholic beverages, controlled substances, firearms, mopeds, e-scooters, e-bikes, segways, 4-wheelers, side-by-sides, golf-carts, and all motorized devices and vehicles are prohibited. Motorized wheelchairs are permitted. 
  • Bicyclists and scooters are strongly encouraged to wear a helmet.
  • Children must have adult supervision before, during and at the end of the parade.
  • Each entry with a child/children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • All entries will be assigned a line-up number and receive further instructions, regulations, and information about the parade upon approval of the application.
  • NO materials (i.e. candy or other giveaways) may be THROWN from the parade route or from float. Walkers may hand or drop items along the road edge.
  • All animals must be on some type of restraint and vaccinated.
  • Each unit MUST complete the full parade route.
  • No POLITICAL CAMPAIGNING allowed. No exceptions.
  • Controversial or questionable content is prohibited. This includes but is not limited to stickers, personal attire, written language or any images that could be considered offensive or inappropriate for a kid friendly event. This is at the sole decision of the Duncan Hines Days parade committee and the City of Bowling Green.
  • All participants must follow all applicable rules and regulations. The parade committee and the City of Bowling Green reserve the right to remove any participant from the parade either prior to assembly, while assembling, or any time during the parade. 

Awards

Judging for the awards is done at the line-up area of the parade. Participants are encouraged to follow the Duncan Hines theme of adventures in travel, dining, and entertainment. Winners will be announced at the Community Ice Cream Social at SoKY Marketplace. Awards include:

  • Most Creative
  • Mayor’s Award
  • Best Kid’s Entry

Rain Procedure

  • In the case of rain, all participants are responsible for covering their unit and/or products. Please wear appropriate clothing in case of inclement weather.
  • If there is inclement weather (i.e. thunderstorms, heavy rain), the parade committee will make the decision to cancel or delay the parade the day before or the day of. Participants will be notified via email and notices posted on the Duncan Hines Days website and social media platforms.
  • This parade is held unless the weather is severe. There is no such thing as bad weather; just be prepared. 

Route

  • For parade participants, the parade line up location will be at Circus Square Park on the College Street side, 601 State Street. Parade participants will be notified of their line-up number on Tuesday, June 6th.
  • Parking is available in the parking structure or other locations downtown.
  • The 600 Block of College Street next to Circus Square Park will be closed for parade lineup. The remainder of College and State Streets will close 15 minutes before the parade starts. Parking spots around Fountain Square Park will be closed by 1 pm to accommodate the Vintage Car Cruise In, but will be a great spot to watch the parade.
  • The parade route starts at Circus Square Park and proceeds up College Street, around Fountain Square Park, down State Street to Circus Square Park. The parade will proceed through Circus Square Park to the SoKY Marketplace where the Community Ice Cream Social and Sock Hop will take place.

Start/End

  • START: All participants must be in place no later than 4:40pm at Circus Square Park. Parade volunteers will be on-site to provide direction and support. Please arrive on time!
  • Entries must check-in with parade volunteers located at the table near the fountains at Circus Square Park.
  • The award judging will take place prior to the start of the parade, while each participant is lined up.
  • END: SoKY Marketplace 

Liability Release

  • By signing the online registration form, Participant assumes all liability and responsibility for any loss injury or damage to persons or property in connection with participation in the parade. The City of Bowling Green, Warren County, and/or the Duncan Hines Days committee will not be liable for any damage, theft, loss of property, or injury or death related directly or indirectly to participation in the parade.

  • Participant fully and forever release and discharge the City of Bowling Green, Warren County and the Duncan Hines Days Committee, and their officials, officers, agents and employees from any and all personal and property liability, claims, demands, damages, expenses, rights of action or causes of action, present or future, whether the same be known, anticipated or unanticipated, resulting from or arising out of participation in the parade whether or not such liability, claims, demands, damages, expenses, rights of action or causes of action be caused by or be due to ordinary, gross, willful or wanton negligence or acts of omissions of the City of Bowling Green, Warren County, or the Duncan Hines Days Committee or its officials, officers, agents or employees or be caused by or be due to the negligence of the participant. Participant agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the City of Bowling Green, Warren County, and the Duncan Hines Days Committee and their officials, officers, agents and employees from any such liability, claims, demands, damages, expenses, rights or causes of action, regardless of the cause. This agreement binds not only participant with regard to any claims, but also participants’ heirs, legal representatives and assigns. If any portion of this Release shall be held invalid, those parts that are not held invalid shall continue in full force and effect.
  • The City of Bowling Green, Warren County, and/or the Duncan Hines Days committee reserves the right to remove any entry where safety measures are, in the opinion of the parade committee, inadequate and also the right to disqualify any entry for failure to abide by safety regulations.
  • The ultimate responsibility for safety lies with each parade participant. Participants must comply with these rules and follow all other applicable government laws and regulations, safety codes, manufacturer’s recommendations, and similar standards necessary to safely participate in this parade.
