Volunteer Opportunities with NSH

The National Society for Histotechnology depends on a wonderful core of volunteers to serve as subject matter experts to help create member resources, histology education like webinars and training courses, promote the Society, and advocate for the profession. NSH is looking for members interested in joining committees, task forces, and working groups to work on these important projects and initiatives. If you are interested in serving as an NSH volunteer, please take a few minutes to review the list of current opportunities with criteria and submit your interest. You may select more than one committee but will likely be selected to serve on one.

The 2021 House of Delegates accepted a motion to update our committee structure, and our 2022 volunteer opportunities reflect those changes.

Please note, NSH committee work and correspondence take place via a private community on The Block and project management software, Asana. All Volunteers must have access to email and the internet to access The Block and Asana.

Awards: Straightforward; impartial; values discretion and confidentiality; passionate about NSH. The committee reviews and scores nominees for all awards and scholarship categories using a rubric.

Bylaws: Interest in society governance. We don't anticipate any big changes this year.

Educators/Instructors: Knowledge of information related to the education of histotechnology students and young professionals. In 2022 the committee will review the Histology Exam Simulator question bank, refresh and upgrade the HT/HTL prep courses, participated in a content gap analysis, draft blog posts regarding workforce development, and create quarterly CE quizzes & JOH Article reviews.

General Anatomic Pathology: Interest in program development and speaker identification. 2022 projects will include participating in a content gap analysis, curating topics/speakers for the HistoHelp podcast, drafting blog posts on relevant histology topics, updating the Hard Tissue IHC Guide, updating free member print resources, and hosting Research Roundtables.

IHC & Molecular: Knowledge of IHC and Molecular techniques. 2022 projects include development of a QIHC Prep Course, participation in a content gap analysis, drafting of blog posts on relevant IHC and Molecular topics and the creation of a Hard Tissue IHC Guide in collaboration with the General Anatomic Pathology Committee.

Imaging & Analysis: Knowledge of digital pathology, whole slide imaging, and related technology and applications. In 2022 the committee will update the Digital Pathology Certificate of Completion course.

Laboratory Operations: Knowledge of lab operations, quality management and lab safety. In 2022 the committee will develop the Leadership Certificate of Completion program, participate in a content gap analysis, develop an online resource tool based on the 2021 NSH Workload Study, draft blog posts on relevant lab operation topics, update free member print resources and draft survey regarding quality assessment in the lab

Public Relations: Friendly, welcoming towards members, enthusiastic champions of the organization, familiar with social media. In 2022 the committee will create activities for Histology Professionals Day, Lab Week, and ways to increase our social media interaction.

Laboratory Webinar Series Workgroup: Interest in program curation and speaker identification, ability to serve as webinar moderator. In 2022 the group will develop the 2023 program.
