Are you interested in designing or co-designing a possible activity that can be run at one of our two conferences- CHOICES and SET?
WISEST is interested in helping you co-develop an activity that showcases your lab/background/STEM field.
*At this time (Dec 2023-Jan. 2024) we are only accepting proposals for new CHOICES activities.
The deadline for a new proposal for a CHOICES 2024 activity is Jan. 10, 2024.
Things to keep in mind:
- We ask that there is a hands-on component to your proposal, but it can also involve a short lab/facility tour or demonstration of a scientific phenomenon.
- The activity needs to be done in 60 minutes
- The activity needs to be age-appropriate (see below for age ranges), while it does not need to tie into the grade level curriculum, it does need to be understood by the students (we can help with this!)
- The activity will need to have an outline/lesson plan completed and an EHS Hazard Assessment completed (we can help with this too!).
The SET conference is for High School girls and gender-diverse students (grades 10-12). This conference has more flexibility for advanced content but still needs to have hands on component.
The CHOICES conference is for grade 6 girls and gender-diverse students, thus more focus should be on the activity and less on the preamble.
The same activity can sometimes be scaled to be appropriate for both conferences.
Please note that while we will review each proposal, we are limited in how many new activities we can accept. We thank you for your time and willingness to create new experiences for our students.
