We are excited to announce the continuation of the Bennett Elementary Running Club for the 2022-2023 school year!
I'm hoping our start date will be Friday, September 23rd. I just need to make sure we have enough parent volunteers to begin on that date. Membership is free, but there will be t-shirts for purchase if you would like to buy one (it is not required to buy a shirt)! There are many benefits to this running program. Your child will improve their overall fitness, make new friends, develop mental toughness, and hopefully foster a love for running! Our running club will take place in the fall and spring semesters. We will take a hiatus during the colder months. Runners of all ability levels are welcome to participate. In the case of inclement weather or there is anticipation of inclement weather, we will notify you as soon as possible that running club will be canceled for that day.
Who:
Bennett students 2nd-5th grade. Also, parents/guardians who have approved background checks with McKinney ISD are highly encouraged to volunteer, if possible. This club isn't possible with out the help of volunteers.
What:
Running club will take place outside using the trail behind Bennett Elementary. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather and brings a water bottle every day.
When:
Running Club is on Fridays before school. We will meet in the gym at 7:15 and have students drop off backpacks. Then, we will get our lap tracker cards and head outside to run on the .4 mile track behind Bennett. We will end running at 7:45 to hand out any awards for the day and allow students to cool off before heading to class. I'm hoping for a September 23rd start date. So stay tuned for more information. We will take a break during the colder months (determined by weather but typically after or near Winter Break). Then resume Running Club when the weather warms up (typically in February). We will end in early May.
Where:
We will meet at the back of Bennett to drop off backpacks in the gym. We will then head outside to run on the track behind Bennett Elementary.
Why:
To encourage our students to lead an active lifestyle!
