The Blackstone Valley Education Hub has become an Apprentice Sponsor for the role of CNC Machinist.
CNC machines are the “backbone” of American industry. The machines cut, shape and finish raw materials such as metal, plastic and wood into usable manufacturing components. CNC machines are complex and machine operators are responsible for overseeing the machines, setup and making program adjustments
that control speed, material feed and path of the cut. These jobs are in high demand due to an aging workforce- there is a critical need to train new people to replace them.

What does the apprenticeship entail?

This is a commitment which entails routine technical training of 150 hours (see schedule below). Classroom training includes topics in the following areas: math, blueprint reading, quality assurance, safety, work
readiness, CNC mill operations, CNC lathe operations, and gcode. In conjunction with classroom training you will also have hands-on training using our CNC equipment and will complete an assigned project. Upon completion of the technical training, the apprentice will be placed with a cooperative employer to receive on-the-job-training for 1 year. Apprentices earn wages and benefits that enable them to provide for themselves and their families. Apprentices typically start around 60% or higher of the journey worker pay scale. As their training progresses, apprentices earn more until they become full “journeymen,” and are then paid at the journeymen rate.

Dates: Tues and Wed evenings, 4-7pm and every other Saturday, 9-2pm
Starting July 13th- November 6th
