Student Council Congress Application
Student Council focuses on leadership training through practical experiences. Students utilize class time to plan, organize, and coordinate activities. The class is required for all Student Council Officers. Every student is encouraged to apply and participate in Student Council activities. Members will plan events such as Fundraising Events, Field Day, Teacher Appreciation Week as well as many other events.

Student Council Eligibility
Students must have an overall grade average of 70 in each class.
All students must sign and abide by the SEM Code of Conduct, UIL Code of Conduct, and the Student Council Constitution.
Students must follow attendance policies.
Students must participate and engage in events. (Each student is responsible to participate in Student Council activities, meetings, and events. Each Student Council member is expected to be an active participant.) If expectations are not met, you will be in jeopardy of removal from the Student Council.
A complete application must be turned in by the deadline, which includes basic information and teacher evaluations.
All 2022-2023 Student Council members will complete the application process.
 
Procedures
Once a complete application is turned in and the application has been approved by Mr. Quiroz, applicants will participate in an election. All applicants are free to run their campaigns during the election period. If you want to display any poster, you will need permission from Mr. Palacios before you hang the poster. If you want to put posters in any classroom, you will need the permission of the teacher. In addition, any online content must be school appropriate and must not degrade another candidate. The election will be taking place on April 4th. After the election, votes will be tallied. Mr. Palacios will announce the results of the election after all the votes have been counted.
Student Council Congress and its Duties

The members of the Student Council Congress shall consist of the following:

President (Led by Senior Class President)
To advise the Executive Board
To serve as a leader for the class on all events
To be a public face and point person for the class
To lead student council/class officer meetings
To serve as a liaison between PTSA & Student Council.
To communicate with the Student Council in reference to PTSA events.

Vice President (Led by Senior Class Vice President)
To oversee the online database of community service opportunities with the help of Activities Director
To distribute project information to all service clubs.
To coordinate all Student Council Service projects.
To assist Student Council President

Secretary (Led by Senior Class Secretary)
To ensure that pictures are taken at every Student Council event.
To create a Scrapbook for the school year highlighting all Student Council events.
To be responsible for acknowledging birthdays of Student Council members at monthly meetings
To make a record of all Student Council meetings and class officer meetings
Maintain records of all meetings

Communications Coordinator (Led by Senior Class Communications Coordinator)
To publicize all Student Council activities, through posters
To oversee all material displayed in school.
To be in charge of the general school bulletin boards.
To write all Student Council announcements
To maintain bulletin board office to promote student involvement in Student Council events.
To oversee all Social Media for Student Council
To oversee the remind for your class and to ensure that all members of your class are receiving communication about important events.

Public Relations Chair (Led by Senior Class Public Relations Chair)
To assist Activities Director in all projects such as dances, shows, etc. sponsored by the Student Council.
To communicate with the Secretary(ies) on in-school public relations for said projects
To plan the Student Council annual Holiday Party, and any other functions at the discretion of the Student Council Sponsor/Activities Director
To be responsible for creating a monthly calendar of events
Recruit members of the class to help with class events.

Student Council Representative
To represent and advocate for his/her student body
To attend the meetings monthly
To participate in different activities
To support the Student Council in organizing events




All members of StuCo will be required to attend monthly meetings (first Tuesday of the month) with Mr. Quiroz. Each class is responsible for recruiting other members to the student council and holding their own class meetings (bi-weekly). Each class will be responsible for planning their own events.
