But whoever enters through the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens it for him, and the sheep hear his voice, as he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has driven out all his own, he walks ahead of them, and the sheep follow him, because they recognize his voice.  But they will not follow a stranger; they will run away from him, because they do not recognize the voice of strangers. (John 10:2-5)

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a Montessori-based religious formation program for children.  It seeks to create and facilitate a sacred, hands-on space called an atrium, in which both the children and their catechists can hear, ponder, and celebrate the most essential mysteries of the Christian faith as revealed in the Scriptures and the Liturgy.  The atrium is a space where the child develops his/her relationship with God, a relationship which already exists. Time spent in the Atrium is slower, quieter, and perhaps even more intentional than a typical VBS or PSR classroom as it is child directed.  The 'Spirit of God within the child' gives them some autonomy and allows their curiosity and sense of wonder to move them toward certain works.
