Mary's Place Food and Supplies Donation Pick-up Ride
Mary’s Place, Pedaling Relief Project and Little Free Pantries have collaborated on an event to redistribute non-perishable foods to local, mutual aid community groups and projects. We have witnessed an abundance of resources shared in the past 6 months by all levels of the community and Mary's Place has received more than they need for their six shelters. At present, they have an excess of several thousands of pounds of food that they want to redistribute. As a team of community organizers, we want to continue helping others during the current health and climate emergency by supporting individuals and families who want assistance during this difficult time.

Join us at the White Center Food Bank or at the Bike Works warehouse in Columbia City on Thursday September 24th between 4 and 7pm, to help redistribute non-perishable food to local food pantries, tables and groups across the city. If you are interested in volunteering, please reach out to us as soon as possible to confirm a pick-up time. We will be limiting number of pickups in half hour increments to maintain social distancing.

Which neighborhoods would you like to restock Little Free Pantries in?
You would be riding from north Burien to the neighborhoods that you list below. We will provide out with a list of Little Free Pantries and other food support organizations that are requesting aid in the neighborhoods that you list. As the food and supplies that you will be delivering are non-perishable it is OK to store the kits in your home for final delivery the next day.

Are you planning on using your bike or your car to pick up the kits?
We need help from both riders and drivers to redistribute these kits out to pantries throughout Seattle! Also considering the severe weather we understand that you might choose to drive if you have access to a car even though you might normally bike.

How many banana box are you able to transport on your bike or with a bike trailer?
The Mary's Place staff and volunteers will be packing the kits into plastic yellow bins and are roughly the same size as standard banana boxes. These kits weigh anywhere from 20 to 30 pounds each and contain enough food and hygiene supplies to stock two Little Free Pantries. The kits will also contain printed information about the food bank and other support organizations that are local on the Little Free Pantry being restocked. Generally when volunteers have been using our trailers they have been able to carry 2 boxes.

Do you need to borrow a bike trailer from us?
These bike trailers are easy to install on your bike and well will bring them to the food bank that you will be delivering groceries for. After you are finished with your delivery and no longer need the trailer you can ether bike it back to the food bank or we can work with you to find a good pickup time and place for returning the trailer to us. Currently our trailers require that you have a bike with a quick-release rear wheel.
