As we prepare for our annual Black History Month program, we are excited to extend an invitation for you to be a part of this celebration of culture, history, and excellence. Indicate your preferred role by selecting one of the options below. Please limit you selection to only two options. Email hollowaya@bcssk12.org if you are interested in selecting three or more options.

1. Choir

Please start learning the assigned song NOW. Pause the video at 7:30 (7 minutes and 30 seconds). Attendance is required for rehearsals on Feb. 5, Feb. 12, and Feb. 26. Thank you!

2. Rap Cypher

A cypher is a gathering of rappers who take turns freestyling or performing improvised verses in a circle. It's a dynamic and collaborative expression within hip-hop culture, showcasing creativity and storytelling skills

We are thrilled to showcase the artistry and creativity of local artists. The Cypher will be pre-recorded and played during the program.

3. Recognition of Trailblazers

Students will highlight achievements of influential African American leaders from our community. Brief presentations will cover their significant contributions, and this will require reading and/or speaking on stage. Will be provided the script to read.

4. Living Wax Museum

Become an influential person from our community! Share their story in a short and interesting speech called a monologue. It's like time-travel, but with talking characters! We'll provide the person and script – just memorize it. And, you get to dress up in a costume!

5. Step Team: 

Must stay after school for the following rehearsal dates: Jan. 28-29, Feb. 7-8, Feb. 12, 13, 15, and Feb. 26-28. Time: 3:30-5:00. (Dates are subject to change.)

6. Historically Black Colleges in Georgia

On stage, students will share the history of Georgia's Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) by reading a script provided by the program committee. You'll have the opportunity to present key information about these institutions. This includes speaking confidently in front of an audience.

7. Spoken Word/Words of Encouragment 

Offer words of encouragement through an original or chosen speech, or deliver spoken word—whether it's someone else's work or your own. Let your expressions cultivate love, honor, and respect for yourself and the community.

8. Divine Nine Recognition

Recognize the excellence and legacy of the Divine Nine! Join us in honoring the members of these distinguished historically Black Greek-letter organizations. This recognition pays tribute to their commitment to scholarship, service, and community leadership.

Representatives from select organizations will be on stage to assist with the recognition process.

9. Door Greeters & Aisle Ushers:
Welcome guests with warmth, setting a positive tone. Assist with seating, distribute programs, and be a helpful presence throughout the event to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for all.
Call time is 5:30 PM. Please dress in all black in a business casual style. This is mandatory.

10. Theater Production/Skit

A skit is a short, humorous play or performance, often consisting of a brief scene, sketch, or comedic routine. Skits are typically used to convey a message, entertain an audience, or communicate ideas in a lighthearted and engaging manner.

Requirements:
-Ability to read/memorize lines
-Supports teamwork and dedication to practices
-Has a growth mindset/Can listen to feedback
-Ablity to how off creativity in a respectful manner
- Always prepared to put forth the best effort
-Singing and dancing abilitites are are needed!
