This is the biggest math competition in the United States! It is the first round, open to anyone, in the series of tests that, ultimately, choose the US team for the International Math Olympiad.
You do not need to be someone who considers themselves a "math person"! Just come, play around with numbers, and do your best! A good score looks very good on college applications, too...
Here is the structure:
There is a test for students in 10th grade and below, the AMC 10, and another for students in 12th grade and below, the AMC 12.
Sadly, PGs are not allowed to participate officially in the AMC.
There are two dates: Thursday, January 30, and Wednesday, February 5. You can choose to do either or both, as you like. Students in 9th or 10th grade can choose to take the AMC 10 or AMC 12, but they are offered simultaneously, so you have to choose. It is allowed, however, to take the AMC 10 on one date and the AMC 12 on the other date. If you have passed 10th grade, you have to take the AMC 12.
Not sure if you'll be able to do it? Go ahead and sign up, there's no penalty. Also, if you don't sign up now, there may well be room if you change your mind at the last minute - I always order extra tests.
Location: classrooms in the Koch. There will be an announcement later about the exact rooms.
