ADF Informal Showings at Scripps: Middle, a New Work by Alyssa Noble
Middle is a solo I built for the "Bear it/Bare it/Bear Witness" exhibit, a multidisciplinary showcase of art with a central theme of reproductive trauma that is spearheaded by Cassie Rowe. The exhibit will live in the Truist Gallery at the Durham Arts Council from April 11th - June 4th, 2022 and will feature a version of Middle as a dance film, in addition to hosting live performances of the piece on April 15th and May 20th.

Middle is a dance solo that integrates my experience with physical hormonal pain and my evolving/conflicting feelings around the idea of myself as a parent. It touches on themes of familial pressure, erasure of self, and the cyclical nature of menstruation. I’ve been working on this piece on and off since March of 2021, and most recently I’ve been working with fellow Durham dance artist Maddie Braxton as a rehearsal assistant of sorts. It's a work in progress for now, and I'm excited to share it.
