Peer Counseling is a program of trained student leaders who show great empathy and compassion, supporting peers in the Ralston Valley community. Peer Counseling programs have been shown to create a positive school culture while providing growth and learning opportunities for both the mentors and the mentees. As a peer counselor you will provide CONFIDENTIAL one-to-one counseling, complete a participatory action research project, as well as finding new and creative ways to improve school culture/climate with a focus on mental health and wellness.
Supports and interventions will be focused on the following:
Stress
Peer Issues (relationships and friendships)
Conflict Resolution and Social Justice
Emotional concerns
Transitions (MS to HS)
**You will not be asked to handle anything beyond your training such as crisis situations or mental health emergencies.

Research Project: The team works together to create an overall goal and study (topic is decided by group) with the help of mentors, research, and self-created evidence.
Commitment:
Open to rising 11th graders only
11th grade fall semester will consist of training and learning physiologic and counseling skills
11th grade spring semester and 12th grade will consist of serving the student body as a peer counselor for one block of the day
You will be asked to make a two year commitment to the program.
