Pennypack on the Delaware - 10/16 8am
Registration not required, but appreciated! If you want to offer a ride or need one, make sure to fill this out.

Join us on Saturday, October 16th from 8am-10am at Pennypack on the Delaware (POD) for our next Philly Queer Birders walk in partnership with BirdPhilly! In addition to Elise (she/they) from PQB, three BirdPhilly walk leaders will be sharing their knowledge and experience with the group! Because of this, we will be able to accommodate a larger walk than we usually have. Check out their website: https://birdphilly.org/

We'll be meeting at the covered picnic area across from the playing fields (Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/7zzV1sfzahq3dQUy9). PLEASE NOTE: Navigating to Pennypack on the Delaware Park will only bring you to the entrance of the park. If you want a specific landmark to navigate to, the River Fields are just across the street from our meeting point (Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/j2huCWkct4awYbP48). There is plenty of parking throughout the park.

Because POD is pretty far from almost all easily navigated public transit (except the 70 and 84 buses), we're hoping to set up carpools for folks who need. While we cannot guarantee rides, historically we have had more offers to give rides than people who actually needed them. If you want to offer a ride or if you need a ride, please fill out the respective fields of this form and we'll connect folks!

The walk will last approximately two hours and will cover just under 1.5 miles on an out and back paved path that is gently sloped in some parts, but mostly flat. There may be a few spots that we walk onto a flat dirt or short grass cutaway to view birds on the river, so bring shoes you don't mind potentially getting dirty. There are a few benches available along the path and we anticipate moving at a slow pace (as birders do!). Unfortunately, the public restrooms are not open, but there are a few port-o-potties nearby. SENSORY/TRIGGER NOTE: The back half of the trail is in ear-shot of a shooting range. While it is not physically dangerous in the area we'll be walking, there may be loud shots heard from time to time that can be startling. We will have seven pairs of binoculars to share and likely at least one scope to see birds farther away!

Pennypack on the Delaware is one of the best birding locations in Philadelphia! The mix of river, meadow, and wooded environments makes a great habitat for all sorts of birds. There will be a good chance of seeing interesting waterfowl, songbirds, and raptors all migrating south for the colder months.
