Friday 2 June (Week 6, TT23), 10:30am - 12:30pm History of the Book Room, English Faculty, St Cross Building, Manor Road, OX1 3UL
The second of this term's Laura Marcus Life-Writing Workshops will be led by Professor Hermione Lee and Professor Elleke Boehmer.
This workshop will discuss the boundaries of life-writing: how much can the self, one’s own or that of others, be invented or imagined or re-created; how much must biography stick to the facts; how much can hypothesis and imagination make up for gaps in the record; what is the relation between history and fiction in the multivarious discipline of life-writing?
Participants are invited to bring examples in their own work-in-progress, or in life-writings they have read, of the challenges around “making things up”.
Workshop places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis with priority given to members of the English Faculty. This event is only open to members of Oxford University. Places will be confirmed on Monday of 6th Week.
Tea/coffee and cake will be served during the workshop.
This event will take place in the St Cross building on Manor Road (more information). Attendees are advised not to attend if they feel unwell and/or to use an LFT prior to the event.
