Annual Survey for Nominations to the Ministry Teams and Positions of Houston Mennonite Church
Hello Friends. 
The vitality, ministries, and success of Houston Mennonite Church (HMC) as a congregation depend so much on the volunteers who serve on the various ministry teams of the church. The purpose of this survey is to invite you to nominate yourself or someone else in the congregation to serve in the various positions or on a team at HMC.  As we rebuild from the pandemic and go through a time of pastoral transition it will take all of us working together to make it happen. 

Houston Mennonite Church is organized around a number of ministry teams. These teams help these ministries come alive in the life of the church. Here are the teams that are in place currently: 

1. Care for all our people. (Care Team)
2. Teach and encourage kids and adults to be followers of Jesus through education and faith formation opportunities. (Discipleship Team)
3. Create a welcoming environment on Sunday mornings by providing refreshments, coordinating monthly potlucks, and supporting other ministries (Hospitality Team) 
4. Outreach to the community in word and action. (Outreach Team)
5. Take care of the stewardship of property and finances. (Stewardship Team)
6. Plan and implement necessary technology to meet needs. (Tech Team)
7. Plan for the worship services at HMC. (Worship Team)

An important communication position in the organization of HMC is the Recording Secretary who prepares the minutes of Church Council and Congregational Meetings and receives Ministry Team reports and makes them available to the congregation.

Being part of a ministry team is about serving people, empowering our shared vision, equipping each of us to live healthy lives as followers of Jesus, and possibly serving as team leader which means also serving on the Church Council. Nominees should be currently active in the congregation and able to affirm the identity and vision of HMC. 

The results of this survey will be tabulated and discussed within the HMC Council which will choose persons to serve in positions and on the various teams. The congregation will be asked to affirm the persons chosen.

The Care Team helps care for all of us with prayer, encouragement, direct communication, and responding to individual and family needs with Care Team Funds. The Care Team offers survivor-centered ministry and remembers that HMC is a diverse community, of all physical abilities, LGBTQ & straight, in crisis or transition, life-long and new Mennonites, etc... Care team also helps our people new to HMC to integrate into the life of our church.  Who could join them in this ministry? 

Current Members: Gerald Gehman (chairperson), Jane McNair, Bill Cork, Elizabeth Melendez, and the pastoral staff. 
Who among us would be a good person to serve on the Worship Team? This person will work with the pastor and others to plan Sunday worship, equip singers and musicians, provide training, and cultivate spaces where people can worship God.  Weekly worship is central in the life of the HMC community. Would you like to be part of this team or lead the team?

Current members are Margaret Gehman and Rebecca Voran.
Who among us would be a good leader for our Discipleship Team, which focuses on providing education and formation opportunities for all ages? The team is responsible to make the programing happen, NOT do all the teaching. We  especially need someone to take up Children's Ministries. We need persons to build relationships with our junior high and high school youth. We need someone to oversee adult faith formation. We need someone to lead this team. 

Lauren Hall is overseeing Children's Ministries until the end of 2022. 
Please nominate people to join the Outreach Team which helps HMC share God's love, peace, and justice through local and wider organizations such as MAM, MDS, Fair Trade, and Houston Peace & Justice Center. The team also oversees HMC's publicity streams such as website, Facebook, signage, etc. 

The team currently has no formal members. Outreach pieces are being picked up by Kathryn and Dave Bauchelle, Clarke Ohlendorf, Mike Whalen, Gerald Gehman, Jane McNair and others. We need a team leader for this team.
Who among us can work with the Stewardship Team to ensure our financial health and to care for our property and facilities? Please nominate someone to serve on our Stewardship Team. 

Current team members are Mitch Miller (Chair), Emily Voran (Treasurer), David Cooper (Bookkeeper), and Gerald Gehman.
Who would be a good person to work with the Hospitality Team as they work to create a welcoming environment on Sunday mornings by providing refreshments, coordinating monthly potlucks, and supporting other ministries.  

Current members of the team are David Cooper (Chair),  Ana Rosa Craig, Raye McGowen, and Andrea Walter.
The Tech Team works with the technology of the church (sound system, microphones, projection, Zoom, worship slides, email accounts, etc.). If you like tech, this could be your thing. Nominate yourself or someone else. 

Current members of the team are Clarke Ohlendorf, Dave Bauchelle, Elliott Dodge,  and Mike Whalen.
