Why should you devote your precious time to the PRSSA Executive Board when you already have classes and you're busy preparing for your career?

Good question. It's a time commitment for sure, and the more you put in, the more you get out of it. So why is it worth it?
    - Premium networking opportunities: Not only do you get to meet big-time professionals (Edelman, anyone?) but you even get to work with them to coordinate events. You get to show them your abilities, and they will remember you!
-Get noticed: Professionals, professors, and organizations will know who you are. Mentorships and connections come so much easier when people see your hard work!
-Unique opportunities: Get recommended for jobs and internships or attend PRSSA-funded trips around the country! (Example: two PRSSA leaders from UVU will get the opportunity to attend the national PRSSA leadership selection conference in Arizona, with all expenses covered, including entrance, hotel, and travel!)
-Use that Creativity for good! Communicators tend to be creative types, and sometimes we just want somewhere to channel it. What better way to channel it than into service? The possibilities for PRSSA are endless - what will YOU do?
-Real experience: Leadership, communications skills, content creation.....it looks good on your resume. Many PR employers look for PRSSA on a resume, and they get extra excited when you're a PRSSA leader. (Just remember: the resume will come naturally if you put in your best effort to serve!)
-Learn: Never been a leader? Don't know how to network? Never touched Canva or Adobe in your life? That's exactly why you should apply! Learn how to do all of those things and more and feel confident in your new abilities!

Ask the next highly successful UVU Comms alum that visits your class, and they will most likely tell you that they were in PRSSA leadership. Join that club of UVU success
If you've never been involved in PRSSA before, don't worry! Get started now! We encourage everyone, even new Freshmen, to get involved.

BEFORE APPLYING, READ THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS THAT APPLY TO EVERY ROLE:
1. You must be a current UVU student during Fall 2023.
2. You must be a current paying PRSSA member before the elections on April 11. Failure to register will result in disqualification. (Membership is $65 per year [$55 national, $10 chapter], renews in October or February, depending on your registration date, and includes all national benefits and your PRSSA graduation cord. Register here >> https://www.prsa.org/prsa/join-prssa )
3. You must attend the Election Ceremony on Tuesday April 11, 2023. Failure to attend will result in disqualification.
3. You must commit to fulfilling the responsibilities of your role from June 1, 2023 to May 31, 2024, regardless of enrollment status.
4. You must be available to train/work with your predecessor(s) from April 17, 2023 to May 31, 2023 to train and adjust to your role, including helping them in their duties as a committee member.
5. You must begin attending PRSSA meetings, which occur every other Tuesday at 6:20 PM via Microsoft Teams, after your election.
6. You must enroll in COMM4250: Communication and Leadership in Fall 2023 (3 credits, Mon. and Wed. from 2:30 to 3:45, Professor Meghana Rawat) - this DOES count toward either your Communication Upper Division or Upper Division Electives requirements.
7. You must attend all PRSSA events and board meetings, as well as any meetings for your committee.
8. You must recruit committee members to help fulfill your area of oversight or commit to fulfill those responsibilities on your own (excludes: President, Vice President, Secretary).
9. You must set aside 5-10 hours per week for club responsibilities, and be prepared for weeks where you have to work more hours if there are events or other major needs.

Additionally, board members are expected to:
1. Show initiative: Regardless of your position on the board, you will be a leader. Show initiative in coming up with ideas and deciding how to implement them.
2. Be available: Make sure you have time to fulfill the requirements of your position, and show up for your team!
3. Be responsive: We are a communications club, and communication is critical to successfully running PRSSA. When questions are asked or needs arise, be responsive to your fellow board members, your committee, your professors, and other students.
4. Take their role seriously: The goal of PRSSA at UVU is to help students launch careers. That means that your role on the Executive Board is important to your classmates. Make sure it's important to you.
5. Be serviceable: The board is not about the board members. It is about the students. Don't think about your role on the board as simply another bit of resume padding. Think of it as a way to SERVE. Trust me: if you serve first, the resume will write itself.
6. Be professional: We encourage friendship and fun. Just make sure to read the room, act and dress appropriately for each occasion, treat others with respect, and ensure that all interactions with professionals reflect well on PRSSA and on yourself. (These are people who could hire you -- make a good impression!)
7. Lead: Again, every board member is a leader. Bring ideas to meetings, invite classmates to PRSSA opportunities, be an example, create strategies for your role, recruit and delegate to a committee, and manage your projects.
