RAPID ASSESSMENT ON PRE-EXPOSURE PROHYLAXIS (PrEP) IN EU/EEA COUNTRIES - AIDS Action Europe
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the first pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for the prevention of HIV 10 years ago in July 2012, followed by an EU-wide authorisation by the European Medicine Agency (EMA), with substantial delay in 2016.

Despite the more than 6-year licence in the European Union, PrEP has not reached its full potential as part of combination prevention, due to several factors around the issues of access and affordability. According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), "Greater access to PrEP and progress in PrEP implementation are needed to reach the Sustainable Development Goal of ending the AIDS epidemic by 2030. To achieve this progress, it would be helpful for countries to gain a better understanding of the barriers within their country to implementing PrEP programmes.”  https://www.ecdc.europa.eu/sites/default/files/documents/DD_PrEP_brief_May%202022-revised-final.pdf

As part of our activities in our core thematic areas of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), affordability, and addressing legal and policy barriers to HIV services, AIDS Action Europe is conducting a rapid assessment on the availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability of PrEP in the EU/EEA countries. Based on the information provided, we are publishing a report on the main findings, and a policy brief with recommendations for the European Union and its Member States to support advocacy efforts, at the national and regional level towards universal access to PrEP.

Please fill in this short survey to the best of your knowledge on the information from the EU/EEA country that you are based in.

Should you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact the AAE Office at ferenc.bagyinszky@aidsactioneurope.org

The survey will be open until 31 August 2022.

Many thanks in advance for your support in providing information, the AAE Office
