Professional Singers with Long COVID: A Phenomenological Case Study

Thank you for taking the time to consider participating in this research project. The purpose of this phenomenology is to explore the lived experiences of professional singers diagnosed with long COVID.

I am reaching out to you to learn more about your lived experience as a professional singer diagnosed with long COVID. If you choose to participate in this study, I will ask you to compete three 60 to 90-minute interviews with me between April 15, 2024 and September 14, 2024. During each interview, we will explore how your long COVID diagnosis has impacted your ability to sing, your profession as a vocalist, and your quality of life.

Interviews will be completed via Zoom. I will be recording each interview to transcribe verbatim. Interviews will be recorded using the video recording feature on Zoom. These documents will be downloaded to my password-protected computer. I will also use the voice recording feature on my password-protected mobile phone. All files will then be uploaded to my password-protected Google Drive account. After this, I will delete all interview files from my computer and mobile phone.

After each meeting, I will transcribe the interview (word-for-word for the purpose of analysis) and email it back to you. You will have one week to read the transcription of your interview to ensure that all information presented is correct. You can add to the transcript, make changes/edits, or delete anything you’d like before returning it to me. This process is called “member checking” and I will use it to ensure that the data accurately represents your experience.

Participation is voluntary. You have the right to change your mind about participation at any time, end an interview at any time, or refuse a question at any time. If you choose to withdraw from this study, all data related to you will be deleted and will not used for analysis.

If you have any questions, please reach out to me at stai6374@fredonia.edu.

Thank you for your consideration!
