Engineering Phase 3 Research Restart Safety Plan
SUBMISSIONS CAN BE MADE STARTING APRIL 5, 2021

UCIโ€™s Phase 3 includes all research activities, but UCI still strongly encourages researchers to work remotely when possible. There is no population density requirement, but establishes a research space population density guideline of at least six (6) feet between occupants, which is based on current applicable CDC guidance and Cal OSHA physical distancing requirements.

All Phase 2 PIs/Center Directors are automatically approved for Phase 3 and no additional authorization is needed. Updates to your plan (e.g., max occupancy, locations) can be made via Plan Owner's Phase 2 Safety Form link and an updated Personnel Form. RESEARCH SPACE & PHYSICAL DISTANCING: My Phase 3 Research Safety Plan includes determining the max occupancy of each of laboratory and office space based on current guidelines of only one person at a time may occupy any enclosed space less than 150 sq ft. Occupancy of larger spaces will be determined by the approved PI/Center Director following safe distancing practices for that space where persons at all times can maintain at least a 6 foot distance. General recommendation is 1 person per 120 sq ft. Scheduling is still required for high-use areas with an occupancy sign posted outside each room. *
4a2. RESEARCH SPACE & PHYSICAL DISTANCING: My Phase 3 Research Safety Plan includes having an easily accessible online schedule for all lab members to ensure that each laboratory/room does not exceed the determined occupancy limits. *
4a3. 4b1. DISINFECTING SURFACES, EQUIPMENT & INSTRUMENTATION: My Phase 3 Research Safety Plan includes having a stocked hand washing and cleaning station in each laboratory, when applicable. *

4c1. PERSONNEL HYGIENE & SELF-SCREENING FOR SYMPTOMS: My Phase 3 Research Safety Plan includes having stocked face coverings and PPE (e.g., gloves, safety glasses). *
4c2. PERSONNEL HYGIENE & SELF-SCREENING FOR SYMPTOMS:  My Phase 3 Research Safety Plan includes clear articulation to personnel in my research group that they can only return to the UCI campus and research spaces if they meet the following: โ€ข In good health and feeling well, โ€ข Body temperature less than 100.4ยฐF (38ยฐC), โ€ข No COVID-19 symptoms in past 7 days (Fever, Headache, Cough, Shortness of Breath, Chills, Muscle Pain, Sore Throat, Loss of smell or taste), โ€ข No contact w/positive or suspect-positive COVID-19 victims in past 14 days, โ€ข Not ordered to quarantine or self-isolate by physician or government. *
4d1. RESEARCH TEAM COMMUNICATION & TRAINING: My Phase 3 Research Safety Plan includes directing personnel in my research group to take required UCI training. "All on-site employees are required to view a training video entitled 'Returning to Campus,' which explains what COVID-19 is, how it is transmitted, the steps weโ€™re taking to reduce potential exposures, and what you can do to protect yourself and others. The video will be available through the UC Learning Center and can be searched by title using the Find a Course function." *
4d2. RESEARCH TEAM COMMUNICATION & TRAINING: My Phase 3 Research Safety Plan includes directing personnel in my research group to prioritize a person's safety and health above all else, to weigh the need for coming to campus against potential health and safety hazards (to themselves and others), and to stay at home if they have symptoms and to contact their healthcare provider for medical advice. *
