Perspective PhD students:No need to fill out this form. I aim to recruit 1-3 PhD students every year. Apply to the CS department at UMD and list me as a faculty of interest.
UMD undergrad students
When working undergrad students, my goal will be providing extensive research experiences that will help their gradudate school applications. So to make this effective, I would strongly prefer that you have taken CV/ML related courses to build up the background. This includes 421, 422, 426, 472, 470, 477. If you haven't taken these courses, please comment explicitly what preparation have you done.
UMD grad students (MS/PhD)
If you want to work with me, please write down your research experiences in details, the problems you wish to tackle, and how you wish to get involved. Read one of my papers, install the code, and summarize the strength/weakness and how you can improve or extend the work.
You don't need to send me emails. My inbox is flooded with various requests so it's very difficult to track and respond. Filling out the form is the best way to ensure that your applications are saved and we will periodically review these and reach out if there is a good fit. For many of these projects I would ask 1-2 PhD students in my lab to help mentor your research.
