CSUSM Black Student Center Ujamaa Achievement Program Interest Form 2023-24
The Ujamaa Achievement Program of the BSC is a community of learners dedicated to academic excellence, leadership development, professional advancement, and community engagement. Participants engage in a variety of educational, cultural, social, and community engagement opportunities to enhance their success and experience at Cal State San Marcos. The program is made up of students from across the campus and various academic disciplines.

We promote the success of Black Students through the principle of Ujamaa (pronounced "OO-juh-muh"), a term in the East African language of Kiswahili, meaning the process of working together as an extended family to build and maintain a cohesive community.

Students in the Ujamaa Achievement Program are encouraged to maintain a 2.5 Grade Point Average while in the program.  To assist students in achieving this, we provide access to tutoring services as well as workshops on study skills and academic success.  Students in the Ujamaa Achievement Program are also challenged to develop their leadership skills through participation in a variety of leadership development workshops and community engagement activities on and off our beautiful campus.

Learning Outcomes:
By participating in the Ujamaa Achievement Program, students will be able to:
     - demonstrate the value and importance of community and culture in the University experience
     - identify and utilize campus resources for academic success, career and leadership development and student involvement
     - develop and achieve goals in their journey through intentional mentorship, self reflection, and community relationships

The Ujamaa Achievement Program is open to all enrolled Black first year students at CSUSM. Students in their third year or higher will be asked to serve as mentors in the program to first-year students.
