Your Summer Request for Financial Aid form will be reviewed and your loan eligibility made available through my.SMU.edu. Please allow up to 10 business days, minimum, for your award eligibility to appear in my.SMU.edu.
Maximum loan eligibility for the Oxford Summer program is $16,241.
Summer Loan Period start and end dates: 5/20/2019 - 7/15/19.

Funds will be offered in the following order:
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan (Only if Unsub eligibility remains for the academic year)
Federal GradPLUS Loan (Must submit application for credit approval through www.studentloans.gov website.)

DON’T FORGET: Submit your GradPLUS application for credit approval through the Direct Loan website. www.studentloans.gov . If approved, you may be instructed to sign the promissory note. SMU will receive an electronic notification within 72 hours and will award your loan based on the amount you requested up to the maximum of allowed for your enrollment. If your credit is denied, you will receive optional information at that time.

Additional Information:

• Disbursement dates: Per Federal Regulations, a school can begin disbursing federal funds to a student ten days prior to the first day of the loan period.
• Enrolling in additional classes at SMU: If you are permitted to enroll in additional courses, over and above those taken at Oxford, make sure to include the additional hours when you submit the Request for Summer Financial Aid. Keep in mind that the start/end dates for the additional courses cannot overlap with the start/end dates for the Oxford programs. Federal policy prohibits the certification of loans when any of the loans have overlapping start/end dates.
• Enrolling in additional classes at another university as a visiting student: If you plan to enroll in classes another university as a visiting student, you MUST complete the Financial Aid Consortium Agreement. This document must be completed by the “host” school and returned to my office via fax or scanned email. Do not apply for financial aid directly with the host school. The Consortium Agreement form can be found online in the DES Financial Aid forms library.
• Funds will be applied directly to your student account to cover outstanding charges. Remaining funds can be received as a refund by Direct Deposit or Paper Check - details on refunding are online at www.smu.edu/bursar.
• Personal Travel/sightseeing/weekend trips: Unfortunately, the federal government does not allow for non-program related expenses. Please plan and budget for any additional activities accordingly.
