This is a volunteer driven program sponsored by the Denver County Court and Colorado bar associations and other organizations*. It is designed to provide pro bono courtroom assistance and advice to pro se litigants in civil cases in the county
court system (jurisdiction of under $25,000).
- Volunteer attorneys would provide legal information, consults, and/or representation before, during, and/or after scheduled court appearances. This includes limited appearances.
- Volunteer attorneys can decline to accept any case for any reason and during the initial review process, counsel shall remains anonymous.
- Co-counsel can be requested to assist as a mentor or "second chair." Law students are encouraged to volunteer to work with an attorney.
- Cases are initially referred by County Court judges and then screened by the Self Represented Litigant Coordinator before they are sent to volunteer attorneys for acceptance.
- Volunteers will be matched with cases based on practice areas
Requirements: (1) You must be an attorney admitted to practice in good standing in Colorado or be a law student partnering with such attorney; and (2) the volunteer attorney must carry malpractice insurance covering this pro bono service.
