The ARIAH Foundation, Dr. Shalon’s MAP & The Tatia Oden French Foundation, in partnership with stakeholders across the United States, have co-created a vision to restore life and dignity to the birthing and postpartum experiences of Black Indigenous People of Color (BIPOC) birthing people. That vision led to the creation of the National Postpartum Awareness Week (PAW) which was officially launched in May 2023. The members of this movement are committed to engaging in collective action and collaboration to ensure safe pregnancy and postpartum outcomes for (BIPOC); locally, nationally, and internationally.
PAW takes placed annually during the week leading up to Mother's Day (from the Sunday thru the Saturday before the holiday). This year's campaign will take place VIRTUALLY from Sunday, May 5 to Saturday, May 11, 2024. We welcome individuals, groups, organizations and institutions from across the country and abroad to engage in the weeklong activities that will improve postpartum birthing outcomes such as, hosting local events, leading conversations, sharing stories, conducting research, creating activations, etc. to mitigate these adverse outcomes in BIPOC communities.
