Brass Butterflies 2024 Sizzlin' Summer Cabaret DIY Performer Application

When:  Friday, July 5, 2024, 7:30pm EDT

Where: Maxwell's Concerts and Events, 35 University Ave E, Unit 2, Waterloo, ON, N2J 2V9

This is a 19+ licensed event. The show will have mature themes and content.

DEADLINE FOR DIY PERFORMANCE APPLICATION: Monday, May 20, 2024 11:59pm

This is a voluntary showcase performance opportunity and no compensation will be provided to DIY performers.

This application is for current and recent students and staff of Brass Butterflies.  If you are a student or performer from another studio or the community who is interested in performing in our show as a guest, please contact us through events@brassbutterflies.com to express your interest.

PLEASE NOTE:  We will not be accepting DIY student Burlesque applications for this show at this time due to the number of students enrolled in the 8-week Burlesque Performance class.  Students in this class are guaranteed a solo spot in addition to being in the Burlesque troupe, if they want one.  If this changes we will post a new call for Burlesque applications.

Please fill out the form below to indicate your interest in performing a "DIY" act in the Valentine's Cabaret. You will be contacted with more details once we have received all applications and allocated spots in the show.  Where it makes sense, we might be able to let you know you've been accepted before the application deadline.  You will have the opportunity to review the additional details that will be provided and accept or decline the offered performance spot.  We will be accepting applications until  Monday, May 20, 2024, though the earlier you get your application in, the better.

Though we would like to invite everyone who applies to perform, in order to keep the show to a reasonable length, performance slots are limited. Priority will be given to current students and staff of Brass Butterflies, and considered in the order they are received.

If your application is accepted, there is no fee associated with performing in the show, however you will be responsible for paying for any Open Practices you attend or additional lessons you book to help you prepare.  We will be posting a few free Performer Only practices closer to the show date but you should not count on these to be enough to prepare your performance.  You will also be expected to attend a tech/dress rehearsal sometime in the two weeks leading up to the show (date and time TBA).

An additional questionnaire for further information about your performance will be sent after performances have been selected.

Information About Venue and Show!
Stage Setup and Pole Configuration
Please note that pole performances will be restricted to two chrome, 45mm, competition X-poles which will be mounted more or less in the centre of the stage (the main 16' x 32' modular stage pictured in the floorplan, below), approximately 8 feet apart.  Default configuration will have the pole at stage right set to spin and the pole to stage left set to static.

The show will most likely be split into two acts; a pole act and a dance act, so that we can remove the poles for the dance numbers.

There will be an area curtained off as a "Green Room" and dressing room for the performers.  Exact configuration will be determined by number of performers and tickets sold.
