(RSVP) Introduction to Control Theory MATLAB Workshop (Spring 2024) 4/16/24 @ 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM - SCOB 290
This introductory workshop pertains to the study and applications of Control Theory. Most vehicles, electronics, and devices implement some kind of controller [microcontroller and/or Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)]. In simplest terms control theory involves an input(s) and desired output(s). For example, your car’s cruise control allows you to set and maintain a desired speed. No prior knowledge of control theory is needed, but some exposure to Ordinary Differential Equations (ODE) and Linear Algebra (LA) is recommended.

We will cover the following during this lecture: 1) brief introduction to classical and modern control theory, 2) Proportional Integral Derivative (PID), 3) Equations of Motion (EoMs), 4) different state space representations, 5) linearizing nonlinear systems, and 6) problem solving.
