Shapiro Summer Research Projects
SMPH mentors may use this form to submit research projects for the Shapiro Summer Research Program.

For the best chance of finding an interested student, submit your project description before January 1, 2024. Project information will be added to a website (https://summerresearch.med.wisc.edu/news-and-events/projects/) that is disseminated to all M1s. Interested students will contact faculty directly to discuss the project. If you have already identified a student and reached an agreement, you don't have to submit a project to the database. In other words, submitting a project here is not a requirement for participation in the Shapiro Summer Research Program.

Students must develop and write a 3-page research proposal as part of their application to the Shapiro program. Applications are due March 3, 2024. Mentors must provide a statement of support and verify that all necessary institutional approvals will be in place prior to the start of the program.

Each Mentor is limited to 2 students.

We developed this research database with the goal to facilitate a match between SMPH research mentors and medical students interested in non-summer research. SMPH mentors may use this form to submit research projects that are available for medical students interested in yearlong or short term opportunities. Project information will be added to a website that is disseminated to medical students. Interested students will contact mentors directly to discuss the project.

Are you interested in mentoring non-medical students? *
The Office of Health Professional Student Research assists various UW SMPH health professional programs and the larger UW campus community with matching students who are interested in research to possible mentors. If you are interested in mentoring other (non-medical) students and are open to being approached about opportunities as they arise,  check all that apply. Please note that the funds available from the Dean's Office can only be used for the stipends for medical students in the Shapiro program and not for the student categories listed below.
