【Abstract】
The pandemic, the COVID-19 pandemic, has turned the world into a new space where there is a need for urgent and transformative policies to cope with these sudden pandemic and disaster related crisis. These crises have also forced governments, communities and international organizations to test their own institutions and identities while reformulating their policy-making strategies and stances. This talk will then look at the initial as well as ongoing and rather more institutionalized responses of regional organizations towards the COVID-19 pandemic by asking the main theme-related questions like, “What have been the governance strategies and responses of the regional organizations towards the recent pandemic crisis?”, “What has the pandemic changed in terms of the norms of regionalization?”, and “What would be the “new (if one necessary)” order of regional cooperation & regionalization in the post-/or with-pandemic world?”. On the constructive and rather societal side of reexamining these regional responses, a rather naive inquiry of how societies are collaborating around the same issue/problem in different regions of the world would also be one aspect to think or question during this talk to contribute to the further feasibility discussions of the whole project.

【Profile】
Aysun Uyar Makibayashi is associate professor at the Faculty of Global and Regional Studies, Doshisha University (Kyoto, Japan). Her major field of interest is international relations with specific focus on international political economy, regionalism and regional environmental governance. She teaches on Asian international relations, international cooperation, global environmental politics, globalization, and development issues. Before joining Doshisha University, she worked at the Research Institute for Humanity and Nature (RIHN), where she got interested in research on interdisciplinary environmental studies and science-society interface.
