UN-RCE High School Sustainability Network Student Application

The UN-RCE High School Sustainability Network aims to engage high school students in sustainability initiatives. The group will consist of 12 council members from Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland counties, supported by unlimited high school volunteers and supervised by a graduate fellow.

Structure 

1. Council Members: - 12 members total. - 4 students from each county: Wayne, Macomb, Oakland. - Members must attend at least one UN-RCE event annually. - Encouraged to participate in monthly meetings.

2. Volunteers: - Open to all interested high school students. - Volunteers assist in projects and initiatives but are not required to attend council meetings. 


Meetings and Events 

1. Monthly Meetings: Held virtually or at rotating locations within the three counties. - Discuss ongoing projects, new ideas, and strategies for sustainability initiatives. - Provide updates on each member’s activities and contributions. - Include guest speakers, workshops, and training sessions. 

2. UN-RCE Events: Mandatory for all council members. - Examples include "Make Food Not Waste," tree planting drives, or clean-up campaigns. - Provides hands-on experience and networking opportunities. 

3. Projects and Initiatives 

  • Local Sustainability Projects: - Waste reduction programs in schools. - Community gardens and green spaces. - Recycling drives and awareness campaigns. 
  • Collaboration with UN-RCE: - Leverage resources and support from UN-RCE. - Align projects with UN Sustainability Goals.
