ABOUT THE COURSE:
This programme will run in term two only. For this reason, we aim to give the students an excellent foundation so they can make their own projects at home after the course. Students will easily gain more sewing knowledge, confidence and skills. We'll start with the basics and work with each student at their own level to achieve some great projects!

In term two, we will create a variety of projects over 8 weeks. Students will learn sewing machine basics (and machine care) and complete 3 to 4 projects, such as, an envelope cushion cover, a tote bag, and a pencil case with zipper. Towards the end of term we will use up our fabric remnants, felt, buttons, and ribbon, to create some fun 'ugly dolls', teddies, or owls.

Classes will have a fairly relaxed atmosphere but students will need to be well-behaved, willing to listen carefully, and be able to follow instructions. (This is particularly important so please do not register if your child will struggle with following instructions and listening carefully. Safety for all students is a priority.)

Each week, students will need to bring:
- their good working sewing machine (with manual if you have it)
- their sewing kit, i.e. pins, fabric scissors etc
- their project and materials, i.e.: fabric, cotton etc
**A sewing kit list plus project materials list will be provided with fabric recommendations.

There will be no homework as it is preferred that class projects are completed in class time and used as learning tools. Students can, however, duplicate their projects at home should they choose to for extra practise.

BEGINNER SEWING STUDENTS WELCOME:
This is a great beginner foundation course and we welcome absolute beginners. Students will learn machine use and care, grain-lines, pinning, cutting, stitching, pressing, supplies/tools, fabric info and more.

Hi! I'm Ruby. I love teaching & being creative. Let's sew together in T2!
STUDENT SEWING KIT LIST:
These items are necessities for your sewing kit:
fabric scissors, pins, an unpicking tool, a sewing tape measure, spare bobbins & spare needles for your machine

These items are handy but not necessary:
dressmaking chalk, paper scissors

You will select thread to match your fabric for each project. It is a good idea to select fabrics which will work with white (or another basic colour) so you do not have to buy many different coloured threads. Sewing thread ranges from $4 to $8 per spool. We recommend Gutermann thread which can be purchased from Spotlight. *We will provide a materials list for term projects.

Samples of some of the projects we may do in Term 2 ...
