Turn It In: Exploring the AI Detector

Turn It In has long been a writing resource for faculty and students at Longwood. In Spring 2023, Turn It In released a new AI Detection tool to help distinguish AI-writing from human-writing. In this workshop, participants will explore the Turn It In AI tool and gain insight into interpreting the AI results for student writing. 
Namecoach

In this workshop, participants will learn to utilize NameCoach, a new Canvas tool. NameCoach aims to solve the common problem of name mispronunciation and gender pronoun communication. Join us to learn about this tool and discover how it can benefit both you and your students.
Using Video to Provide Effective Instruction & Feedback

In this workshop, participants will discover a variety of ways to use video as a vehicle for providing meaningful instruction and feedback. Whether teaching face to face or fully online, there are multiple ways video can be used to save time for the instructor and maximize impact for student learners.
Canvas Quizzes: Creation and Best Practices

In this workshop participants will learn how to design and create Canvas quizzes utilizing the various question types available. Participants will also discover best practices for Canvas quizzes including display options and how to provide feedback.
Canvas/Banner Grade Submission

In this workshop, faculty will learn to utilize the new Canvas/Banner grade submission tool. This is an optional tool within Canvas that allows faculty to push mid-term and final grades directly from Canvas in to Banner. 
Tips and Tricks for Teaching Short Courses
Tues. October 3rd 1:00pm-2:00pm
Location: Allen Hall 205
Short courses are not just time-intensive for students but for the instructors as well. In this workshop faculty will glean tips and tricks for being explicit about your course goals and design strategies to help you implement an effective short course.
Designing Effective Canvas Rubrics
Wed. October 11th 2:00pm-3:00pm
Location: Allen Hall 205
In this workshop participants will learn best practices for creating rubrics in Canvas courses. We will discuss creating criteria, point distribution, and utilizing rubrics to provide feedback to students.
Embedding Multimedia: Recording Video for Canvas
Thurs. October 17th 2:30pm-3:30pm
Location: Allen Hall 205
Curious about creating instructional videos? In this workshop, participants will discuss various recording methods, best practices, and technical considerations. Whether recording with webcams, screen captures, or cameras, you'll learn the three key stages of video production and how to chunk longer recordings into smaller, more manageable sections. Come learn alongside your peers and see how the DEC can help facilitate the creation of high quality videos that can improve student experiences in Canvas.

Course Review: What It's All About

The DEC manages online and hybrid course reviews for the University, but what are they really all about? In this workshop, participants will gain insight into the course review process from start to finish. We will also walk through the newly updated review rubric and explore courses that have successfully gone through the review process. 
Integrating Packback Deep Dives with Canvas

This training is intended for faculty who want to utilize Packback Deep Dives with their Canvas courses. This session will provide information on the steps and considerations needed to integrate Packback with Canvas courses. 
Respondus Lockdown Browser and Monitor
Multiple Dates- Vendor Facilitated
This training is intended for faculty who want to utilize LockDown Browser and/or Respondus Monitor with online exams. The sessions provide a detailed demonstration of both applications, including updated enhancements to make Respondus Monitor effective and easy to use.
