TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE (TTA) PROGRAM

STRATEGIC PLANNING TTA APPLICATION

The Center for Justice Innovation (formerly the Center for Court Innovation) is providing three levels of strategic planning TTA to jurisdictions through the BJA’s Sixth Amendment Initiative, Justice for All.

Intensive Strategic Planning is available for up to 24 months of assistance, and will involve a review and assessment of all protections found within the Sixth Amendment.
On-demand Strategic Planning is available for 12 to 18 months of assistance, and will involve support around discrete Sixth Amendment challenges.
Limited Assistance TTA will include remote consultations to facilitate brief informational and referral responses.

The Sixth Amendment encompasses a set of rights that help ensure fair adjudication and accurate verdicts. Upholding these rights is pivotal to addressing numerous criminal legal system challenges, including overcrowded court calendars and case delays, the coercive elements of plea bargaining, and the challenges of jury trials. Eligibility for assistance includes multi-stakeholder collaborations, specifically with courts. Community involvement is strongly encouraged.

There is only one application form to complete for all level types. The type of assistance will be determined based on your application. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Completing the form is the first step in the process. Some sites will be invited to a telephone interview with the Center’s team. After the interviews and in collaboration with BJA, eligible sites will be selected at no cost to the site.

Drawing from more than two decades of experience working with criminal legal systems, the Center’s approach to strategic planning emphasizes a rigorous, ground-up method to understanding the unique needs of systems from the perspective of those entrenched in the work. This approach is characterized by a collaborative planning period between Center staff and the site. It includes the support of an experienced researcher to identify the different ways data and research can inform the process.
