STATEMENT OF FAITH

The members of the Kansas City Homeschool Connection board of directors are required to sign the following statement of faith, but acceptance of a faith statement is not required of the general membership.

The directors and officers of Kansas City Homeschool Connection affirm the following:

We believe that the Bible is the inspired, infallible, complete, divinely preserved Word of God, the supreme and final authority for all faith and life (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 1 Thessalonians 2:13).

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (John 15:26, Ephesians 4:4-6,  Deuteronomy 6:4).

We assert our belief in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ (John 1:1), His virgin birth (Luke 1:35), His sinless life (1 John 3:5), His miracles, His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood on the cross (Ephesians 1:7, 1 Peter 1:18-19), His bodily resurrection (Romans 8:11, 1 Peter 1:3), His ascension (Acts 1:6-11), and His imminent bodily return in power and glory (Hebrews 9:28, Revelation 1:7, Luke 21:25-28).

We believe that man was created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27), but fell into sin and is therefore lost (Genesis 3:1-7, Romans 5:18-21, Isaiah 53:6), and only those who put their faith in Jesus Christ alone, not trusting in any personal works whatsoever, can be saved (Romans 1:16, Ephesians 2:8, Romans 10:9).

We believe that salvation is the free gift of God brought to the sinner by grace and received by personal faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, whose substitutionary death on the cross paid the penalty for man’s sin (Romans 6:23, 2 Corinthians 5:21).

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and forsake their sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ (Acts 3:19-21; Romans 10:9-10; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).

We believe that the ministry of the Holy Spirit is to convict mankind; indwell, guide, instruct, and empower the believer for godly living and service (John 14:16-17, John 15:26, Romans 8:9).

In accordance with the teachings of the Holy Bible as the inerrant Word of God, for all purposes of the corporation and these bylaws, “marriage” means only a legal union between one man and one woman as husband and wife, and the word “spouse” refers only to a person of the opposite sex who is a husband or wife (Genesis 2: 23-24, Matthew 19:4-6, Hebrews 13:4).

We believe that the biological sex of a person is an essential part of human identity, and that God wonderfully and immutably creates each individual person as male or female. These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Genesis 1:26-27) We believe that in His infinite grace, according to God’s design and intent, sexual differences between males and females are an intrinsic part of humanity, and rejection of one's biological sex is a rejection of the image of God within that person.

We believe that children are a heritage from the Lord (Psalm 127:3), and that Scripture places the primary responsibility for their education upon their parents (Proverbs 22:6, Deuteronomy 6:5-9), and that is best accomplished through a loving atmosphere of family-based home education.

We attest to the spiritual unity of believers through our common faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and that individual doctrinal differences which may exist–outside of the aforementioned–should not hinder the unity of Christian home educators (1 Corinthians 1:10, Acts 4:32, Galatians 3:28, John 13:35).

Although there are many reasons families choose to educate their children at home, the majority who belong to Kansas City Homeschool Connection (KCHC) are motivated by Christian principles, acknowledging Jesus Christ as Lord. These Christian beliefs which guide most of our members will be evident in the activities and expressions of this organization.

Our goals are

1) to encourage each other toward educational excellence,

2) to foster relationships among the children, our families, and each other, and

3) to help new home-educators get started.

While it is not our intent to exclude those whose beliefs differ from ours, it is our desire that all support group activities operate in harmony and unity; therefore, all members and prospective members should understand that Christian beliefs and principles determine the direction and leadership of this support group.
