The Student Volunteer Interpreters is a volunteering initiative aimed to break down language barriers in care centers. Since Jan 2021, we have been assisting the Jewish General Hospital Emergency Department, designated Montreal COVID center, where caregivers’ inability to communicate with allophones is a daily struggle. In this COVID era, it is especially important to get accurate information when interviewing allophone patients. During afternoons and weekends, students will volunteer to interpret for triage nurses and doctors through WiFi voice calls. Every aspect of this volunteering is COVID-safe, confidential and anonymous.

Let’s use Marianopolis’ diversity to help caregivers and allophones.
