Matilda Awards Proposed Changes - Feedback Form
MOVING FORWARD
The Matilda Awards Executive Committee and Judging Panel are committed to providing regular updates on our processes and procedures and to consult with the theatre sector when we consider some improvements or amendments to the way we manage the awards process.

We are currently considering some changes to the Awards format during 2022, and seek your comments on these proposed changes that are intended to reflect current industry and wider community expectations.

Please consider the two resolutions below and let us know whether you agree or disagree or whether you have other points of view:

1. Moving forward changes will be made to the Awards to be inclusive of all genders. Our current resolution is to do this by updating the categories ‘male’ and ‘female’ to gender neutral references, awarding two leading performer and two supporting performer awards (instead of one male, one female in each category)

• Allows for inclusion of all performers
• Reflects current thinking in the industry and wider community

2. Resolution to change ‘best’ to ‘outstanding achievement’. Eg ‘outstanding achievement by a leading performer’; ‘outstanding achievement by a director’; ‘outstanding achievement in production design’, etc.
Removes the element of hierarchy
Mitigates the sense of competition
Allows potential nominees to be considered on their own merit rather than pitted against other industry members

We acknowledge our national and interstate awards counterparts, The Arias and Greenroom Awards, who have already adopted similar changes to their award categories.
