As you probably know Matrix has a mission to democratise communication by providing an open protocol allowing apps and services to connect into a large open network. The idea is to bring the control back to the user, letting them choose which provider they trust with their data, and which user experience they use to access this data. It is also about giving organisations the ability to keep control over their conversations whilst still being compliant.
Sovereignty over one's communication is critical in today's world, and while the open source project is widely used (78 million users on the network as we write, and supporting many public and private sector communications), its development efforts are only supported by a couple of companies.
Donating to the Foundation will help with:
Managing the Matrix spec
Maintaining the reference client SDKs and encryption and getting them independently audited
Maintaining example server implementations in the form of Synapse and Dendrite
Writing the test suite
Publishing the matrix.org website
Promoting awareness of Matrix
Running the matrix.org homeserver
and so much more...
