Americans for Justice in Palestine Action Endorsement Questionnaire
Ideally, the candidate recieving AJP Action’s endorsement will align with our principles and our mission of ending Israel’s oppression of the Palestinian people through its settler-colonialism, apartheid, and military occupation; backing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination; and ending all forms of US support for Israel until Palestinians achieve their long-denied rights to freedom, justice, and equality.

In the process of making our endorsements, we strive to evaluate where candidates currently stand, their willingness to engage on the issue of Palestine and to be challenged to reevaluate what often passes in Washington, DC as uncritical, conventional wisdom, and the record of their opponents.

1. Through what framework/s do you view issues between Israel and the Palestinian people? Is this a conflict to be resolved between two parties around a negotiating table? A military occupation to be ended unilaterally? A struggle to dismantle apartheid policies and settler-colonial rule? *
2. Israel is the largest annual recipient of US foreign assistance since World War II and its annual allocation of Foreign Military Financing is more than all other countries in the world combined. What will you do as a Member of Congress to ensure that weapons to Israel are not being used to harm Palestinian civilians, and how will you hold Israel accountable for any violations of US law committed with US weapons? *
3. The approximately two million Palestinian inhabitants of the Gaza Strip have lived under an Israeli blockade and siege for more than 15 years, and are often subjected to punishing Israeli attacks. What concrete measures will you take as a Member of Congress to end Israel’s blockade and siege of the Gaza Strip?
4. For more than half a century (with the exception of the Trump administration), the United States has rhetorically opposed Israel’s colonization of the West Bank. However, Israel’s illegal colonization of Palestinian land and demolition of Palestinian homes and infrastructure in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, continues unabated. What concrete measures will you take as a Member of Congress to go beyond rhetorical opposition to Israeli colonization?
5. In 2005, hundreds of Palestinian civil society organizations put out a call for nonviolent campaigns of boycott, divestment, and sanction (BDS) to achieve long-denied Palestinian rights. This call has been met with attempts at the state and federal level to punish and even imprison people in the United States who engage in BDS campaigns. What is your view of the BDS movement and will you unequivocally promote and protect the First Amendment right to engage in BDS campaigning?
6. In light of the re-rise of the civil rights movement, what is your view on politicians who are for social justice and equality in the U.S. while they simultaneously are silent on or oppose the same rights for the Palestinians? What parallels do you see between the Palestinian quest for justice, equality and freedom and the social justice movement in America?
