Lincoln and Tad - Harper's
The auction has ended.  Please Do Not Submit This Form.

At the end of the Civil War, the publishers of Harper's Weekly, the illustrated newspaper, edited all of their coverage and illustrations of the Civil War into a single volume for publication. The purpose was to tell the story of the Civil War from start to finish with all of the engravings and illustrations they had produced during the period. The book was large, with pages replicating the same size as the full newspaper pages had been. The book was called Harper's Pictorial History of the Great Rebellion and was published in 1866.

This lot contains one (1) double sided leaf from Harper's Pictorial History. One side of the leaf contains a large illustration of President Lincoln reading with his son, Tad. This illustration is based on a photograph of the two that was taken in February of 1864. The reverse side of the leaf contains an illustration of the Lincoln home in Springfield, Illinois. The text on the pages serve as the introduction into the death of Lincoln.

This original page from Harper's Pictorial History measures approximately 16" tall and 11" wide. The edges of this newspaper page are cleaner than most but there are still a few expected cut outs and tearing. Please consult the images below carefully to judge its condition. This original page is largely frame ready.
