Are you looking to contribute to your community’s arts scene and have the honour and prestige of working with one of the leading presenters of the world’s distinguished musicians?

Vancouver Chamber Music Society seeks candidates for its Board of Directors who are passionate about world-class classical music in local suburbs and support VCMS’s mission to enrich cultural lives, inspire communities, and advance public appreciation for classical music through the richness and diversity of chamber music performed at the highest level of artistic excellence.

Skills and Experience

Strong candidates will reflect some of the following:

  • Marketing/public relations or audience development expertise.
  • Passion for fundraising and donor retention engagements.
  • Leadership experience in governing and strategic planning for non-profits. 
  • Corporate law or accounting expertise.
  • Corporate networks, especially in industries where arts and culture are a priority for their philanthropy.
Expectations
  • Be informed about and understand the Vancouver Chamber Music Society’s
    • Mission, history, goals, and strategies;
    • Programs; and
    • Finances
  • Attend all board meetings (1-hour remote meetings). The full Board meets four to five times per year.
  • Serve on at least one local committee, mutually agreed upon by individual members and board leadership; participate and contribute as a committee member and attend scheduled committee meetings.
  • Act as a public ambassador for VCMS, referencing their association in their personal and professional spheres of engagement.
  • Assist in fundraising efforts by:
    • Staying alert to funding opportunities;
    • Opening doors to new funders, including individuals, corporations, and foundations; and
    • Following up on leads in cooperation with staff
  • Regularly attend concerts and participate in public engagement and outreach activities when and where possible.
  • A willingness to make a personal donation and to fundraise from others.
