The purpose of any senior contest activity is to recognize those student-athletes who have committed themselves to your program and are playing their final regular season home contest. The activity should not take away from the contest for the rest of the student-athletes, opposing players and fans. In an effort to keep the programs balanced, the Southern Connecticut Conference has endorsed rules for senior night recognition activities:
1) Athletic contests must start on the time it is scheduled. Please schedule your pre-game senior night event to accommodate the start time of the athletic event.
2) Each team must have a minimum of a 5 minute warm-up after a senior recognition ceremony before the start of the game ( reminder- game must start on time)
3) Introduction of the senior athlete is limited to reading the athlete's name and the escorts’ names (parents, grandparents, etc.)- Individual speeches or reading of bios are not allowed during introductions
4) Recognition of opposing team senior athletes is limited to a general statement- example: “Congratulations to our visiting team seniors”- Individual naming of opposing team seniors is not allowed. Flowers and/or other tokens of appreciation of visitors should be presented as a group and not individually. This token is an option and not required.
5) All senior activities must be approved by the Athletic Director in advance of the senior night event.
6) The opposing team must be notified by the athletic director that a senior night ceremony will be held prior to the athletic contest.
