Mastodon 🤝 Twitter Verified ➡️ Fedified
This began as a small project to fight the spread of election-related misinformation on Mastodon, a social network comprised of thousands of federated servers that allow users to communicate across the world. Today, Fedified protects public figures, creators, journalists, companies, and brands by verifying ownership of Twitter and Mastodon accounts.

Who is eligible?
NOTE: As of November 13, 2022, only accounts managed by persons residing in the United States, Puerto Rico, Mexico, or Canada are eligible for addition to the list. This change is due to region-specific data storage requirements that are beyond the scope of this free public service.

To preserve the integrity of the verification process itself, your Twitter account must have been Verified by Twitter prior to November 5, 2022 (i.e. you had to provide a government-issued ID to get your checkmark). There are very, very rare exceptions for 1) very large well-known anonymous, pseudonymous, and parody accounts with 100K+ Twitter followers, and 2) accounts of real persons who use their real name and likeness and have large followings (20K+ Twitter followers with a follower:following ratio >10). The follower:following ratio is meant to screen for inauthentic accounts that are used to amplify misinformation and/or engage in targeted harassment; these types of accounts typically grow their follower base via follow-back campaigns.

I'm eligible, how do I get my information on the list?
To add your name to the Fedified list, please:
1. Edit your Twitter profile to include a link to your Mastodon profile (preferred) *or* the full Mastodon handle (@YourScreenName@Server.Domain). Make sure it's easily visible (e.g. display name, bio, or a *pinned* Tweet)
2. Complete this form
3. Send a Twitter DM to @DataDrivenMD (yes, the accounts says I've moved to Mastodon, but I'm still using the account for this express purpose)

What happens next?
Assuming your account is eligible and the information provided is valid: your name and account will be added to the Fedified list shortly after the confirmatory Twitter DM is sent to DataDrivenMD

If I do not receive a Twitter DM from the Twitter account associated with this request, I will assume that the request was submitted by a 3rd-party without the express consent of the actual account owner.

How long will it take to get a response?
If everything checks out, no more than a few hours (average turnaround is ~4 hrs). If I need to contact you about anything, then it may be 24-48 hrs until I'm able to offer a status update. If the information doesn't match, or the account is not eligible, then you will not get a response.*

*I'm sorry but I simply don't have time to craft personal messages to everyone reiterating the information on this page. I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel, here, I'm just trying to help the public reconnect with the persons and organizations that they've been following on Twitter. I'm trying to help preserve the reputation and trust that's been built over several years. That's what verification is all about— trust.
