RSVP for Understanding Asian Identities & Anti-Asian Bias through Poetry and Film

The Office of Compliance & Diversity, the Teaching and Learning Center and the Division for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs invites you to the Understanding Asian Experiences & Anti-Asian Bias through Poetry and Film event on Wednesday, April 3 from 1:40pm-2:55pm in 630T, Haaren Hall (6th floor)

Emmy-Award Winning Poet and Performer, Suzen Baraka, will screen her short film, My Asian, and share her story of growing up Black and Korean in America.  Her film, My Asian, “highlights the horrific miscarriages of justice that Asian-Americans and Asians in America are, and have historically been subjected to: from day-to-day micro-aggressions to actual acts of violence and terror against members of our community.”

Following the film, internationally renowned spoken word artist, John Jay Associate Professor of Africana Studies, and 2 time Distinguished Teaching Prize winner, Crystal Endsley Taylor, will use poetry and creative writing to connect the film with our own explorations of identity and anti-hatred.

Date/Time: Wednesday, April 3, 2024 from 1:40pm-2:55pm

Location: 630T, Haaren Hall (6th floor)
