About First-Gen Scholars Independents
First-Gen Scholars is a multi-year cohort program for first-generation students at the U focused on holistic advising, mentoring, and leadership opportunities while building community together.

As a current or transfer student, you can be part of our class and program by serving as a Independent.

Independents is for those who may not have the time to take on a full-on mentoring role but are still interested in participating in Beacon Scholars. To a certain extent, we also expect Independents to help out First-Years, and to assist Mentors in their mentoring duties.

• exhibit an interest in higher education, mentoring, support, and community.

Final thoughts or concerns about the application process and/or the First-Generation Scholars program?
We mean anything, even if it is how miserably awful this application was. Though we do have one rule: you can only complain if you offer a solution ;D
