SAA Drum Corps 2019-2020


The Drum Corps provides military style drumming to accompany field drills and formal parades. Dr. Owen Duggan of the music department is in charge of training and evaluating candidates. He selects the boys to be in the corps in consultation with Academy commandant Col. Steve Marshall, based on the following criteria:
Prompt and cooperative attendance during all 3 trials.
Good academic standing
Ability to execute accurate rhythms while maintaining a steady beat (tempo) in a group setting
Top-notch military appearance and manner

Positions for the Drum Corps are:
Corps Commander: 8th grade student who has shown strong leadership and who has served previously in the Drum Corps
Executive Officer: 8th grade student who has shown strong leadership
Drummers: Additional drummers from grades 5-8

Preference given to experienced candidates in grades 6 through 8.
