TeamADL Teaching Assistants (TA) Termly Network 2022-23
This is a network established in 2021 and led by Helen Masters, a recent SENCO in an outstanding school.  We believe TAs should have access to high-quality CPD; we believe TAs should network and learn from each other.

Helen is a qualified music teacher, however, over the years has experience of teaching a wide range of subjects from key stage 2 to key stage 4 (including SATS and GCSE).

She began her career working in a middle school on the outskirts of Birmingham and this is where she discovered her interest in Special Educational Needs. In her second year of teaching a student was put into her form group diagnosed with ASC and ADHD. She knew nothing about these conditions so set about finding out, quickly realising that there was a whole world of SEND that had only been paid lip service to in teacher training and that other colleagues within school were in the same situation. She became the school’s SENCo in 2001 and has continued in that role to the present day, determined to raise awareness of SEND so that students can  overcome their barriers to learning with the aim of developing productive individuals within society.

In 2005, Helen moved to Challney High School for Girls in Luton (part of the Chiltern Learning Trust) where she took up the post of SENCo in a middle leadership capacity. This role involved networking with other SENCos and professionals across Luton, including social services, medical professionals and teacher training organisations. In 2018 her role was promoted to the leadership team and broadened to encompass responsibilities including, DT LAC, medical, alternative provision and Deputy DSL. In 2022, Helen was appointed as Director of SEND for the Chiltern Trust and continues to work with TeamADL on projects.

TeamADL warmly  invites a senior TA / HLTA in each school to attend this network and then use the information and resources provided to cascade to other TAs in school.

Each session will last 90 minutes and cover a range of themes, including effective questioning skills, working memory and information retrieval, precision teaching and much more. It is an opportunity for TAs to learn from each other and ensure the best service is provided in supporting children, developing independence and preparing them for adulthood.  They are sent handouts and slides to support dissemination in school.

Each term, we will draw a name out of the hat and the school will win £100 of resources* Visit our #Giveback site here https://www.teamadl.uk/GiveBack.php
