Tie-Dying Textiles Techniques Class
6 Saturdays in March and April. Attend every class to build a robust skill set or drop-in to any class. All classes from 3:00pm-4:30pm at the Chama Valley Arts Center, 278 Maple Ave, Chama. 
  1. March 2nd: Spiral and variations: Learn the most classic of tie-dye patterns: the spiral. Variations include the Spider pattern as well as fractals./Stripes and V-patterns: Learn the accordion fold and its uses in stripes and V-patterns. 
  2. March 9th: Crumple pattern, twists and bursts: Learn the types of markings that can be created with tight rubber banding and sinew-tying. 
  3. March 16th: Hearts and other symmetrical shapes:“If you can fold it; you can dye it.” Learn to fold along a drawn line. Auntie Ann’s “Dragon pattern” will be covered, as well as how to make a mandala. Learn the use of skewers.
  4. April 6th: Ombre, the French shading style using gradient shades. 
  5. April 13th: Shibori, an ancient tie-dye technique from Japan. Learn the technique of the wrapped Shibori as well as a folded Shibori.
  6. April 27th: Student choice: Choose from Wig Wag, Windowpane,Yin Yang or other complex designs.

Anyone completing all six classes may arrange a free lesson in dyes and chemicals to be held by appointment at Auntie Ann's Home in Chama.


Registration fee is $25 per participant/class!  To secure your class reservation, please pay when you register via: https://givebutter.com/theArtofTie-Dying.  If you are unable to complete the registration and payment electronically, you may print and fill out the registration form and send it in with your payment to Chama Valley Arts, PO Box 95, Chama NM 87520 OR communicate via email to info@chamavalleyarts.org.  Our goal is to respond to any questions or support within 48 hours of email receipt.  Of course, we will also communicate with you via phone as well, when needed.

Cancellation:  Cancellation within 1 week of the class start date is nonrefundable, unless there are extenuating circumstances.
