THE PROJECT

Gender-based violence and online abuse are closely related. In Europe, one in ten women have experienced online violence since the age of fifteen and 20% of young women experience sexual harassment online. 70% of women who were cyberstalked are also survivors of physical and/or sexual violence by their partner or former partner. Cyber abuse and stalkerware represent increasingly widespread, often hidden, forms of gender-based violence.

The goal of the DeStalk Project is to develop strategies and tools to recognize and eliminate online gender-based violence and stalkerware.

 THE TRAINING

Our online training is aimed at three target groups: professionals of victim support services, professionals of perpetrator programmes and professionals working with government authorities. Through a self-paced e-learning package, professionals will understand what is defined as cyber-violence and stalkerware and how to recognise different forms of cyber-violence. The training will be available from 11th October 2021, we will soon notify participants on how to proceed.

The training consists of 4 levels: the first level contains an introduction to gender-based cyber-violence; level 2  outlines the different forms of cyber-violence; level 3 focuses on the issue of stalkerware including the legal status, the ways of installation and guidelines for practitioners to detect and remove the software; level 4 provides guidance on what practitioners can do when confronted with cases of cyber-violence and stalkerware. At the end of each level, a test must be completed, however, to ensure time efficiency, users can skip the theory and move straight to the test.

The DeStalk online training will have an indirect but very significant impact in helping thousands of victims and those working with perpetrators of cyberviolence.
