Dana 2021-22 School Year Honors Placement Reevaluation Request Form for Parents
Parents of future 5th and 6th grade students at Dana Middle received a letter via email during the week of June 1st regarding their child's placement in our humanities program for the following year. Our Honors Humanities program will differ from our Standard program in many ways. Students will:
- Participate in accelerated and higher complexity of study;
- Complete tasks beyond current grade level standards and explore the skills addressed in the subsequent grade level standards;
- Work more independently, with teacher support as needed;
- Read additional texts, some of which are completed as homework;
- Be expected to possess a stronger vocabulary, more complex and varied sentence structure, and greater depth of thought and analysis;
- Be assigned readings that may be at a higher level of difficulty.

We encourage parents to make a thoughtful decision regarding their child’s placement. Students who receive a poor grade may not be able to be moved from the course until the semester or the end of the school year.

We are asking all families to confirm their placement request by Monday, June 7th. All students are re-assessed for placement at the end of the 2021-22 school year.
