Wakarusa Riverbank Restoration Project Volunteer Workdays and Newsletter Sign Up
Friends of the Kaw and Native Lands LLC along with the City of Eudora Parks and Recreation Dept. and the Eudora Parks and Recreation Foundation are returning native plants to the boat ramp in Eudora.  Removing non-native plants and returning native grasses, wildflowers, trees, and shrubs will slow storm water, decreasing erosion on the bank. The native plants will also filter pollutants and debris, provide habitat for wildlife, and provide food for pollinators.  They’re also beautiful!

Be a part of the action and join us for one of our workdays!  During each workday, volunteers will learn about the project and why natives matter, then everyone will help remove invasive plants, prepare the site for planting, and/or help plant new native wildflowers, trees, or shrubs.  This is a two year project with workdays occurring mostly in the spring and fall, ending in late spring 2022.

Fill out the information below to be added to our email list.  We'll send out information before each workday and we'll share information about any major project developments.

When attending any workday, volunteers should bring water to drink, work gloves, and pruners or a shovel.  Wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes and clothes that can get dirty.

A NOTE ABOUT COVID-19:  In preparing to join us, please note that Friends of the Kaw and Native Lands LLC will adhere to all suggested COVID-19 prevention guidelines including social distancing recommendations.  Tools will be provided and disinfected as needed, however, we suggest that you bring your own.  This includes shovels, pruners, and gloves.

Please also bring anything else you need for the day including water, and snacks.  As per the governor’s instructions, face masks are recommended.  For more information about the COVID-19 guidelines please refer to the Douglas Co. Coronavirus Response Hub at https://coronavirus-response-dgco.hub.arcgis.com/.

Please email Kim Bellemere at kim.bellemere@kansasriver.org with questions.

We're excited to see everyone and to work with you at the river.  Thanks for your help in making this project a success!
