Class Lineup and Descriptions

Workshop 1 - $75 - CLASS RESCHEDULED. NEW DATE AND TIME, TBD.
Andrew Rathgeber - Who’s Line is it Anyway? (Open level, Unarmed and R&D)
This class explores the advantages (and disadvantages) of non-linear choreography. Students will focus on telling better stories in smaller spaces, or in “the round” while still implementing proper stage combat safety standards. So often we harp on maintaining safe distance and staying on target, but here we will play around with the opposite. There will be an aikido element to the unarmed portion of this class.

Workshop 2 - Sunday, February 18th, 3-6p
Rachel Flesher - Violent Intimacy and Intimate Violence  (Open level, Intimacy)
This masterclass will focus on navigating hyper-exposed movement in vulnerable spaces. No prior experience necessary; this class is great for fight directors, intimacy directors, actors, and directors hoping to learn more about facilitating violent intimacy and intimate violence. Course covers themes of non-consent and is led in a trauma informed and consent forward fashion.

Workshop 3 - $60 - Sunday, March 10th, 3-6 pm
Tom Ringberg - Stop Being Nice! Film fighting class  (Open level, Knife)
The class covers the difference between a Good Partner and a Nice partner and how to really show that aggression during a fight. Students should expect to learn and analyze techniques best suited for knife fighting on camera.

Workshop 4 - $60/ $30 - Sunday, April 14th, 3-6 pm
Samantha Kaufman - Intro to Choreographing Physical Storytelling (Open level, Unarmed, Lecture + Application)
A Virtual option available for the lecture portion of this class only at a reduced rate.
This course is for anyone who wants to learn the fundamentals of choreographing. Whether for fight, intimacy, dance, devised work, etc… this class will cover the basics of movement composition. The first 90 minutes is a lecture, which can be attended virtually, the second 90 minutes is about the application of concepts. Though no previous choreography experience is required, the class is designed to hone the intentionality of an experienced choreographer. The lecture (with virtual option) is accompanied by a slideshow and video clips, we will break down how those focuses are applied into physical storytelling across different physical mediums.

Workshop 5 - $75 Friday, May 10th from 6:30 - 9:30 pm
Mike Lubke - Foot-and-Bladework (Intermediate level, Single Sword)
This class will showcase a foundational footwork principle across a variety of blade play techniques.  Starting with basic attacks and parries on the move, graduating to pointwork and prise de fer.  By the end, students would be able to better understand how some bladeplay problems can be solved by adjusting footwork and vice versa.

UPDATED WORKSHOP 6 - $ PWYC (suggested $20) - Sunday, June 9th, 3-6 pm
